Lives of the Saints Essay

In Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Nino Ricci’s Lives of the Saints both exhibit various dreams of ladies. Contrasting feeble and uncertain ladies in Hamlet as to solid and free ladies in Lives of the Saints. Ophelia in Hamlet is described commonly as a powerless ladies particularly in the statement, â€Å"frailty thy name is woman.† She is totally reliant on her dad and demonstrates her reliance when she acts merciless to Hamlet. Which conflicts with her actual sentiments toward Hamlet. Afterwords Ophelia consents to not see Hamlet any longer, â€Å" I will comply with my lord.† Which shows Polonious’s power over his girl. Ophelia’s activities show that she will do anything to satisfy her dad, in any event, making a giving up of one's own priorities which she doesn’t concur with. Ophelia’s want to satisfy her dad drives her to be utilized as a manikin all together for the King and Polonious to keep an eye on Hamlet, Ophelia’s readiness to keep an eye on an individual she really cherishes, gives her actual nature toward her dad. In any event, when Hamlet irritates Ophelia and advises her to go to a religious shelter, Ophelia had the failure to guard herself. At the point when her dad passes on, Ophelia is left without anyone else, with nobody to give her direction. Rather than attempting to proceed onward with her life, she requires her sibling trusting he will have an arrangement for her, â€Å"My sibling will know about it thus I thank you for your great counsel.† Polonious’s was basic lastly Ophelia understands this â€Å" I would give you a few violets, however they wilted all when my dad died.†The noteworthiness of the violets are that they represent dependability and they all passed on in light of the fact that she felt pointless without her dad. Ophelia’s passing is in consequence of her reliance and shortcoming of character.Overall, Ophelia goes frantic on the grounds that she has no situation in the public eye. Men have consistently bossed her around, utilized her, pulling her brain toward each path. She put her confidence in one individual and never settled on her own choices. Like Ophelia is Gertrude. She is additionally portrayed by the statement, â€Å"frailty thy name is woman.† Gertrude relies upon her significant other. Gertrude yearning for the consideration that she loses when her significant other kicks the bucket, rapidly weds Claudius, her spouses sibling. Shakespeare shows that ladies have no spine and our powerless. As though they couldn't live with out others, men particularly. Nino Ricci exhibits an entire distinctive side of ladies, he shows that ladies are solid and free. The character that shows these characteristics is Cristina, she brought up her youngster Vittorio alone. In contrast to the ladies in Hamlet, Cristina didn’t need a man to assist her with bringing up her kid or to get past life. At the point when her child gets beat up at school, she doesn’t simply overlook it. She makes physical move about the circumstance † I’ll make her compensation for this, Vittorio, you’ll see, by the blood of Christ I’ll make her compensation. The cleaning at certain tears in her own eyes, she took me out of nowhere by the hand and walked me out the entryway into the road. (107).† Cristina is resistant not a sucker and goes to bat for what she trusts in. She lives in a town where the ladies remain at home and the men turn out to be in the field and everybody put stock in abnormal notions. Cristina was against her village’s desires and conflicted with what everybody thought. Cristina is blunt and confident. She has a women's activist perspective and is vey positive about it, she says â€Å" He’s most likely laid down with each prostitute in America at this point, yet for me its a disfavor. (154)†. Cristina is clarifying about her significant other Mario yet it is additionally an announcement as a rule about men. Folks can circumvent going from young lady to young lady to young lady and it is anything but an issue. Be that as it may, if a ladies were to do something very similar, regardless of whether it was simply with one person its a flat out disrespect. This book was situated in 1960 and a similar sentence could apply to 2012. Additional ly has hugeness to the content since she had an unsanctioned romance and the entire town discovered, which then they treated her with nauseate. Cristina likewise states â€Å"Women have had their countenances up their rear ends for a really long time, they let their men go around like goats and afterward they’re upbeat on the off chance that they don’t return home and beat them! (154)† It is disparaging that ladies are viewed as prostitutes when they have illicit relationships, particularly when its said by other ladies. They’re mistreating their own sex when saying it. She at last chooses to move away and says her last words to the town â€Å" You are the ones who are dead, not me, in light of the fact that not one of you recognizes being free and to settle on a decision, and I implore God that he completely destroys this town and every one of its stupidities! (184)† Most ladies wouldn’t have talked there mind, particularly a lady like Ophelia or Gertrude. Cristina continually battled with her dad and consistently differ â€Å"Long contentions were continued every day among kitchen and room, pressure drifting around.(154).† She at long last got tired of living with her dad and getting his point of view she said â€Å" Then to damnation with every one of you! I’ll go to Rome, Naples, anywhere.† She had the boldness and solidarity to leave her dad and start a real existence elsewhere, mean while Ophelia couldn’t last two or three days with out her dad and killed her self. Nino Ricci shows ladies to be straightforward, autonomous and ground-breaking. Toward the finish of every story the two ladies characters pass on. The thing that matters is the manner in which they carried on with their life. Cristina at any rate carried on with her life, going to bat for what she have confidence in and having her own feeling. With respect to Ophelia carried on a lie, as she was a cowardly idiot continually doing what others advised her to do and had a regrettable demise. Shakespeare and Nino Ricci may have totally different vision on ladies and yet they are both extremely precise perspectives.

Frederick Thide’s article, â€Å"In Search of Limiting Principles: The Eleventh Circuit Invalidates the Individual Mandate in Florida v. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,† appearing in the Boston College Law Review claims that Congress will be crippled in its â€Å"future efforts to set social welfare policy† (Thide 2012, 370) if the Supreme Court affirms the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit’s holding that â€Å"Congress exceeded its power under the commerce clause and necessary and proper clause by requiring individuals to purchase health insurance as part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act† (359). In his introduction, Thide (2012) describes the economic conditions of the health insurance market that brought about the need for the Affordable Care Act and presents three main ideas to support his conclusion. As a final point, Thide (2012) warns that rejecting â€Å"the view that Congress is the prima ry arbiter of what is necessary and proper,† (370) under the necessary and proper clause, may â€Å"significantly constrain Congress’s power† (359) to develop and implement â€Å"novel regulatory schemes that include the use of economic mandates† (371). After â€Å"decades of political wrangling over proposals for universal health care† (Thide 2012, 359), Congress passed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and President Obama signed it into law on March 23, 2010. Thide (2012) calls the act â€Å"Congress’s solution to a complex market failure† (360).

The Prodigal God Younger Brother vs. Older Brother Free Essays

Writing II-1st Younger Brother Sin vs. Older Brother Sin Luke 15:11-32 is one of the most famous parables in the Bible. It is the parable of the prodigal son. We will write a custom essay sample on The Prodigal God: Younger Brother vs. Older Brother or any similar topic only for you Order Now This parable is about a son who runs away with his inheritance, wastes all of it, and then comes back home to his father’s open arms. Tim Keller goes more in depth into this parable with his book The Prodigal God. In this book, Keller compares the two sons’ sins, â€Å"two brothers, each of whom represents a different way to be alienated from God, and a different way to seek acceptance into the Kingdom of heaven† (9). Throughout the book, comparisons can be made between the younger brother’s sin and the older brother’s sin. The younger brother was selfish and wanted his inheritance immediately so that he can go party. The older brother follows all of the rules to get things and doesn’t want his brother to come back. Throughout The Prodigal God, comparison can made between the two brothers’ sin in that both of their intentions are selfish and they both want control. Tim Keller’s book is more than just discussing the parable of the prodigal son. While the tradition seems to focus more on the younger brother and his sins, Keller goes more depth with the older brother and his faults, â€Å"Most readings of this parable have concentrated on the flight and return of the younger brother-the ‘Prodigal Son. ’ That misses the real message of the story, however, because there are two brothers, each of whom represents a different way to be alienated from God, and a different way to seek acceptance into the Kingdom of heaven† (9). The first way that the older brother and the younger brother’s sins are similar is that both of their intentions are selfish. With the younger brother, he wanted his inheritance early so he could go and party. â€Å"The young man humiliates his family and lives a self-indulgent, dissolute life. He is totally out of control. He is alienated from his father. † (39) This behavior showed he wanted freedom for himself and that he was impatient. Keller goes on to say that the younger brother thought of his relationship with his father as unimportant and he only wanted him for his possessions. He says that once he got tired of the relationship, he basically said that he was tired of it and he wanted out. Even though the older brother is different, his sins are still of the same context. He obeys all of his father’s rules so that he appears to be a good son, yet he is only doing these things to take advantage of his father so that he can get what he wants. â€Å"Elder brothers obey God to get things. They don’t obey God to get God himself- in order to resemble him, love him, know him, and delight in him. So religious and moral people can be avoiding Jesus as Savior and Lord as much as younger brothers say they don’t believe in God and define right and wrong for themselves† (49). The second way in which the younger brothers and the older brother’s sins are similar is that they both want control. â€Å"There are two ways to be your own Savior and Lord. One is by breaking all the moral laws and setting your own course, and one is by keeping all the moral laws and being very, very good. † (50) Both brothers sought to control the father. The younger brother wants the inheritance to have control over his own life. â€Å"He wanted to make his own decisions and have unfettered control of his portion of wealth. (41) The younger brother felt he could handle is life without any help, but he needed earthly treasures so that he could feel powerful. The older brother is keeping all of the rules so that he can get his way with his father. â€Å"Elder brothers do good to others, but not out of delight in deeds themselves, or for the love of the people or the pleasure of God† (70). The older brother feels his obedience should keep his father obligated t o him. When his father offers the younger brother forgiveness and a feast, the older brother is angry because he has lost control over his father. The obedience the older brother kept for so many years seems to be futile. â€Å"It is impossible to forgive someone if you feel superior to him or her. †(63) When looked at more closely, the younger brother and older brother show an unexpected similarity in their sins throughout the parable of the prodigal son. Keller states in his book The Prodigal God that the goal of this book is to lay the essentials of the gospel, and to either introduce or reassure the message of both this story and the gospel. This parable is thought of as one of the best readings in the Bible to help someone grasp the understanding of God’s love. How to cite The Prodigal God: Younger Brother vs. Older Brother, Papers

Answer: Introduction This study will examine the effect on service quality on program performance and delivery at UNICEF in Malawi. This report will propose a systematic approach of measuring, monitoring, tracking and improving the efficiency of service quality in programs at UNICEF. UNICEF delivers valuable aids and medicines to children in grief stricken areas so improvement in supply chain is essential for catering to all the needs of the children on time. Problem definition Malawi has been going through nutrition and food crisis for a long time but the present scenario is the worst in the past decade where the majority of the population is trying to survive on less than 1$ per day (Unicef.org 2016). In Malawi, 4 million children have been affected due to the El Nino and the devastating flood right after it affected the whole country. Therefore, the traditional food producing zones have been highly affected by these natural calamities, which stated that more than 30% of the population would be going through a state of food crisis (Unicef.org 2016). UNICEF has been quick to respond to the humanitarian needs of the population that is at risk. These include prevention of malnutrition and outbreak of diseases such as cholera. Therefore, it is essential for UNICEF to develop an efficient supply and logistics system so that timely delivery of aids can reach the affected the population (Unicef.org 2018). UNICEF handles projects of huge magnitude which affected by obstacles at regular intervals. Therefore, providing affected areas with better service quality can save more lives, which will require improved measuring, tracking and monitoring capabilities. Research aim and objective The research has aimed to examine the present logistics and supply chain management in UNICEF so that an improved system can be proposed which will be able to measure, monitor and track the packages in more effective way. Objectives To identify the impact of service quality on the UNICEF programs in Malawi To examine the current logistics and supply management system in UNICEF To identify the drawbacks in the supply chain management process To recommend improvements on the current supply chain and management system Research hypothesis H10: Service quality has no impact on the programs in UNICEF H11: Service quality has impact on the programs in UNICEF H20: Supply Chain and logistics does not have impact on Service quality at UNICEF H21: Supply Chain and logistics does have impact on Service quality at UNICEF Research Questions What is the impact of service quality on the UNICEF programs in Malawi? What is the current logistics and supply management system in UNICEF? What are the drawbacks in the supply chain and logistics management process? Literature review As stated by Wisner, Tan and Leong (2014), service quality is has a great impact on the success of the programs developed by any organization. Supply chain and logistic is a crucial part of the organization, which will have a greater significance in the organizational context. According to Siham et al. (2015), effective supply chain management is essential for providing high of service in an industry. The advancement of technology has changed the use of logistics and supply chain. In case of business organizations, increasing their operation efficiency increases their profit margin. Therefore, continuous monitoring of the supply chain procedures facilitates in measuring and tracking of the products shipped. The credibility of the organization depends on the timely delivery of the products and the quality of the product received. It may happen during the transportation phase, the products have been damaged; this could lead to bad reputation and decrement service quality. However, in c ase of large-scale nonprofit organizations the importance of improving their logistics is high as human lives are at stake in this scenario. Therefore, one late delivery or improper delivery of supplies could lead to the death of thousand civilians suffering from natural and man- made calamities. As stated by Oelze (2016), it easier for business organization to improve their supply chain management, as they do not have to deal with uncertainties and emergencies at frequent intervals. The nonprofit organizations may work on projects on long duration of time but they will never be able to predict that there will be a natural disaster in a particular country at a given point of time. Therefore, developing the best possible supply chain is necessary so that they will be able to reach these grief stricken areas as soon as possible. The delay in reaching these areas will increase the number of casualty and improving the supply chain processes and tool is absolute necessary. However, other support activities will be necessary for improving the overall operations of ay organization. These activities are finance, administration, HR, ICT and Quality Assurance. As stated by Heizer (2016), effective administration and human resource management is essential for gaining competitive advantage. This will include the job analysis, employee relationship and administrative services. The database of the employees and other activities are managed by the human resource operations. Information communication and technology provides the manager with effective about all the operational activities. This enables the managers to take effective decisions and be aware of the different activities processes. According to Konieczka and Namiesnik (2016), quality assurance is crucial for maintaining the quality of the products offered by the organization. Quality assurance is a preventive measure, which is used for avoiding product and service defects during delivery of products. Th is requires development of effective quality system, which will monitor the quality of the products and services offered. Therefore, quality assurance will focus on the process output so that quality of the product can be measured and controlled. As opined by Mahadevan (2015), strong finance ensures that organization has access to all its resources. In order to maintain this large infrastructure for supporting the operations support from the finance department. This include developing budget for the activities both primary and support activities within the organization. Methodology Methodology is the systematic way of collecting raw data and converting it into meaningful data. There are two types of research, one is fundamental and other is applied research (Best and Kahn 2016). This study is applied research where it deals with a specific problem related to a particular organization. The management of UNICEF to make improvements in the supply chain and logistics can use the findings of this study. Research philosophy identifies the different methods used in conducting the study. The four philosophies in research are interpretivism, positivism, pragmatism and realism (Flick 2015). In this present study, pragmatism is the philosophy selected for the research. Pragmatism accepts all the frameworks and postulates if they are supported by relevant evidence. According to pragmatism, there are multiple realities and there are different ways of interpreting a particular issue. Pragmatism will assist in conducting mixed method analysis. There are three types of research approaches and they are inductive, abductive and deductive. The approach used in this study is deductive approach as this is a conclusive study where the purpose and conclusion of the study has already been decided. The deductive approach will facilitate in testing the hypotheses formulated which means the existing theories developed in the literature review will be validated using this approach. As this is a mixed method analysis, sequential explanatory is the research design, which means that initially quantitative analysis of data will be conducted, and then qualitative analysis will be conducted for supporting the results in quantitative analysis (Creswell and Poth 2017). The data collecting method consist of both primary and secondary analysis of data where primary data will be used for conducting the quantitative and qualitative analysis. Secondary data will be collected from journals, articles and web articles to develop the literature review (Sekaran and Bougie 2016). In primary data analysis, both close ended and open-ended questionnaires will be used for collecting the data. Data analysis will consist of quantitative and qualitative analysis of collected data. The quantitative analysis will consist of analysis of data using statistical tools such as Ms excel where the frequency of respondents will be represented through graphs and charts. Regression analysis will be conducted for identifying the degree and nature of relationship between both the variables (Taylor, Bogdan and DeVault 2015). The quantitative questions will be asked to the lower level employees in UNICEF. The qualitative analysis will analyze the patterns within the answers to provide a different dimension to the study. The qualitative analysis will consist of questions asked to the mid level managers dealing with activities within UNICEF. Sampling is the method of selecting population sample for the total population. The two sampling methods are probabilistic sampling and non-probabilistic sampling (Bryman and Bell 2015). In this study, probabilistic sampling method will be used in quantitative analysis where randomization is the basis for selecting sample size. A survey will be conducted for 300 employees and then 100 samples will be selected using simple random sampling for representing the overall population. In qualitative analysis, non-probabilistic sampling will be used as the sample size is small. The mid level managers of the organizations will be asked open ended question where the numbers of respondents are 5. Reliability is the method of identifying the accuracy and precision of the methods used in the research. In this study, pilot test will be conducted where sample questions will be sent out to respondents for their feedback. On the other, the test rated reliability will be used identifying the accuracy of the methods (Einstein 2014). On the other hand, validity will be tested using construct validity where the different methods and instrument used will be examined. Research ethics aims to protect the rights of the participants in the study. In this study, maintaining the anonymity of the respondent will be a top priority so that their privacy can be maintained. The respondents will be made aware of the purpose and objectivity of the research so that they aware of the premises. Moreover, it will be made sure that none of the respondents have been forced to take part in the survey. Timeframe Main activities/ stages Week1 Week2 Week3 Week4 Week5 Week 6 Topic Selection Data collection from secondary sources Framing layout of the research Literature review Formation of the research Plan Selection of the Appropriate Research Techniques Primary data collection Analysis Interpretation of Data Collection Conclusion of the Study Formation of Rough Draft Submission of Final Work Conclusion Therefore, it will be inferred that effective supply chain management is essential for improving the quality of service in these programs. The above methods proposed if executed appropriately are expected to provide results having high degree of validity and reliability. References Best, J.W. and Kahn, J.V., 2016.Research in education. Old Man In The Sea Essays (611 words) - Fisheries, Ichthyology

Old Man In The Sea Book Report on Old Man and the Sea Title: Old Man in the Sea Author: Ernest Hemmingway Publication: Simon and Schuster, Inc. in New York, NY. Theme: It doesn't matter if you succeed as long as you try and enjoyed the attempt. Also even if you don't succeed, its only important if you have the will to try again. If you have the will to try again good things will happen. Santiago supported this theme because for eighty-four days straight he hadn't caught one fish but day after day he would go out and try again and finally one day he caught the biggest and most beautiful fish he could dream of. He succeeded but the fish ended up getting eaten by sharks. Santiago was devastated but decided to keep on fishing. Place Setting: This book takes place in Cuba and the ocean. Time Setting: This book takes place in the early nineteen forties Point of View: This book was told in third person omniscient. I believe Hemmingway picked this point of view is because this he can show the characters emotions better and distinguish different characteristics. Main Characters: Santiago- The main character, an old very experienced Cuban fisherman. Despite his age he had young eyes and great determination to catch the marlin. Santiago endured a lot of pain trying to catch the marlin but wit his determination he never let go and caught the fish. Marlin the Marlin- Was an eighteen foot and beautiful fish. The fish eventually kind of became Santiago's brother. The marlin demonstrated great skill and strength for three days before being caught. Manolin- A young boy, who admired and learned to fish from Santiago. The boy cared for Santiago and refused to let him ever fish alone again. Plot: Santiago had gone eighty-four days without catching a single fish, and Manolin's family had refused to let Manolin, a young boy, fish with his friend Santiago because they believed he had bad luck. The night before Santiago was going to fish, Manolin and him talked about Baseball, which they both loved. The next day Santiago set off to try to catch some fish. Santiago ended up catching the biggest, most beautiful he could have dreamed of. Santiago couldn't reel the huge marlin in. The fish continued to swim and didn't lose much energy. Santiago spent three days and finally was able to catch the marlin. Santiago's hands were bruised, his back was extremely sore, and was acting strangely, talking and arguing to himself. Santiago hooked the fish next to the boat and headed back to the village. A couple of sharks had come up and tore apart part of the fish but still half of it was left. Then when he got near the village and group of sharks had come and attacked the boat and even wi th all Santiago's effort the sharks were able to destroy and eat the whole fish. After the trip home Santiago was exhausted but was considered a hero when people measured the size of the bones. Manolin was worried for the man a promised him he would always fish with him from then on. Evaluation: I didn't really like the book for two reasons. First I thought it was boring just to read half of the back having him chase a fish. I'm not really interested in fishing so it kind of got me bored. Secondly, when I did get excited at the end the sharks ate the finish and it made for a bad ending. If the ending were different I would have enjoyed this book more. In conclusion I would not recommend this book Bibliography Weiss, Mike Book Reports

terror in french revolun essays

terror in french revolu'n essays The Terror, generally recognised as being the time period of 1793 1794, saw a dramatic escalation of violence as desperation intensified, and the ideals were always the driving force behind the brutality; their significance did not diminish, but rather grew in strength as they justified the violence. The ideals that led to the Revolution and thus its Terror phase originated in the Age of Enlightenment, which was, as Wikipedia describes, an intellectual movement in 18th Century Europe. This period involved the criticism of existing status quo, which meant challenging established institutions such as the church and the government. These intellectuals believed that solution to the worlds problems was rational thinking, and therefore shunned religion and social structures like feudalism in favour of deism and republics. The ideas from the Enlightenment about religion and the government were carried through into the Revolution, and the Terror, where resistance to them was met with brutality. In order to fully appreciate the Terror of the French Revolution, the revolution itself must be explored. There were several causes for the revolution, including the resentment of the Kings absolutist powers, bitterness toward the unfair feudal system by the lower classes, the introduction of Enlightenment ideals, unmanageable national debts (both due to and exacerbating the taxation system), and extreme food shortages in the years directly before the revolution. Franà §ois Mignet says this of the revolution: To some extent the old order succumbed to its own rigidity in the face of a changing world; to some extent, it fell to the ambitions of a rising bourgeoisie, allied with aggrieved peasants and wage-earners and with individuals of all classes who had come under the influence of the ideas of the Enlightenment ... As the revolution proceeded and as power devolved from the monarchy to legislative ...

Social struggles in The Melting Pot and America Essay

Social struggles in The Melting Pot and America - Essay Example The poems ‘The Melting Pot’ and ‘America’ are poems that both portray different characters. These characters seem unsatisfied or displeased with the current state of affairs in the country. In the poem America, the narrator identifies a boy who describes America in a way that shows his negative attitude towards the state of affairs in the country. The second poem, ‘’The Melting Pot’ also talks about the problem of identity of immigrants. It talks about discriminations experienced by the immigrants in a cynical way. The poem is also narrated by an ‘observer or outsider’. The narrator of ‘America’ is not also directly involved with the activities and events in the poem. He/she is a third party in the setting. These two similarities between the poems is also a notable one and brings the authors’ feelings without having a biased approach on either of them. In ‘America,’ Tony Hoagland helps the rea der to visualize and clearly see how Americans have a liking for material things. These material things are not necessary in their lives by specifically using nouns. In the line where he says ‘Then one of pupil with blue hair and a tongue stud, claims that America for him is for a maximum security prison.’ In this line, he portrays a young person, who represents a future generations, who has literally lost hope in his country, and views it as a prison, rather than a home. This is dangerous as the young generation is responsible for the future social wellbeing of people (Hahn, 2003). He goes on to say that ‘Whose walls are made of Radio Shacks, Burger Kings and MTV episodes.’ In this line, he clearly depicts a society that has lost its traditions and dependent on contemporary aspects of life. He also indicates people that indulge in unnecessary and socially unfriendly aspects of life, like fast food restaurants, luxury by mentioning the 70 inch TV and a lack of culture by sarcastically mentioning MTV episodes. Nouns used above help the to visualize the amount of â€Å"purchasing† that consumes American lives. Looking at the poem ‘The Melting Pot’, the cultural study theory is one that applies by looking at the large societal context. The poem reveals that there is a culture that the society revolves around in America. Near the beginning of the poem is a line that says ‘Can step in Czech or Greek or Scot. Step out American’. This demonstrates the strength the American culture on immigrants who come to America. Do they not only become Americans by law, but also evolve and change culture wise. Hoagland metaphorically shows the American people’s obsession with money. He also says that money ruins people’s lives, although this statement is questionable. He writes that ‘And I remember when I stabbed my dad in the dream last night, it was not blood but money.’ He retorted, â€Å"Tha nk God-those Ben Franklins were clogging up my heart-and, so I perish happily freed from that which kept me from liberty.’’- The writer shows that the money was preventing the stabbed man from living a happy life. It was as if the money had blocked the flow of life into his heart, and it was a relief that his son had stabbed him. Although money is good, it also has a bad side (Reese, 2004). In this case, id does not bring any good to this man but brings him sorrow. On the contrary, in ‘The Melting Pot’, there is an indication of different social and economical classes with different political ideologies. It is evident that due Sam’s low economic class, he was not given a chance to demonstrate his equality in America. Basing one's argument on Sam’s race, we can see the reason for his stagnation in the social ladder. African Americans (blacks) were not allowed to work to move up the social class ladder. They had

Evolution Of Human Resource Management In The World Business Essay

Evolution Of Human Resource Management In The World Business Essay Human resource management is defined as the strategic approach to manpower management in an organization and also this is a function of the company which focuses on recruiting the management to provide further information to the employees, how to take the business to the top level. This process is really important to todays businesses, it studied that employees working in teams or individually are the two main contributors which helps to succeed in the business objectives. The managers of the businesses in this generation are responsible in selecting employees, planning the goals of the company, planning how the business can use the resources in effective ways, assigning tasks for the employees, giving information to the employees how a task should be completed by using few resources, giving feedbacks how they can change their behaviors, introducing new technology to improve performance of the employees, taking responsibilities of the entire business and most importantly being a role model to the employees and working hard to give the best services to the customers. Human resource management is the business function that deals with issues related to people such as compensation, hiring performance management, organization development, safety, wellness, benefits, employee motivation, communication, administration and training. An effective human resource management focuses on managing the employees effectively and productively to the entire business in order to accomplish the companys goals and objectives. Today the target of human resource management is to recruit the employees by providing development programmes and scholarships rather than depending on traditional personnel and transactional roles which are increasingly outsourced. The features of human resource management include; organizational management, personnel administration, manpower management and industrial management. Human resource management works hard to have a good relationship between traditional management functions and the skilled employees with in the business. Employees are highly treated by having a closer look of their skills and experience. The employees have to get the full knowledge of the particular field and have to be skilled. Moreover, the human resource manager perfectly empowers inter-department employee relationships and nurtures scope to have a great communication in all levels of the business. In this modern world it is a must to have a Human Resource Management Department which relate with legislature of all factors of production. This department is responsible for the development and application of ongoing research on strategic advances while hiring, terminating and training staff and also this department is responsible in various areas of the business like identifying the areas where there are lack of knowledge and inadequate training and to overcome these problems worksh ops and seminars are conducted. Furthermore, recruiting the workforce, developing the relationship between the employees inside the business and development of a uniform organizational culture, identifying what the employees need (necessary resources) and career goals, understanding and relating to employees as individuals, fulfill the strategic approach in order to maintain competitive advantage, motivating and supporting the employees so that they will get courage to do their tasks well (this is achieved by workforce planning and recruitment , employee training, induction and orientation of hired task-force and administration and appraisals). Strategic Human Resource Approach really helps for the progress of the business. It is defined as the linking of human resource with strategic goals and objectives in order to improve business performance and develop organizational culture that maintain innovation, flexibility and competitive advantage. In an organization strategic approach is implemented through recruiting, selecting, training, rewarding the employees and increasing the employees productivity by focusing on business obstacles which happen in the external environment. The target of this approach is to focus on long-term objectives like addressing and solving problems of the business in the long-run of the business and internationally. In this competitive world everything (internal and external) of a business is changing. Modern trends are increasing and this is becoming an important factor for an efficient business. The huge changes of the businesses have also changed human resource management to personnel management and personnel management to manpower planning and the businesses are focusing on strategic approach which helps in the long-run of the business and helps to gain competitive advantage for the business. Moreover, recruitment of staff focused to geocentric from ethnocentric and polycentric which is more efficient because the employees are selected based on their attitudes and skills. These days recruiting is also done by the effective policies like using of headcounters, cross national advertising and E-recruitments. In the early days the employees have to work for long hours and are not well paid. Furthermore, they are not provided with quality requirements and the work place is unhygienic but now ever ything has changed. Under the strict rules and regulations of the government the owners of the businesses are forced to set up a formal mechanism to look into employees wages and welfare and reporting the issues through labor. Moreover, the employees are provided with the latest technologies with all the requirements they need while doing the tasks. In the workplace the employees are provided with modern furniture and the place is designed in an attractive way for the customers and for the employees where the employees can work much comfortably. There have been huge changes between the personnel management and human resource management in many ways like ; the recruitment and the skills of the employees have began to increase workers commitment and loyalty and also motivation helped to have a active social community within the employees, fringe benefits rather than monetary incentives. In addition, with the introduction of performance on pay, employees stock option the Wage and Salary Administration became outsource. The behavioral training to change attitudes and develop basic skills are focused then remaining incomplete to in calculating work proactive, with new techniques such as management by objectives rather than the report-card based performance. Human resource is going through huge transformation in the business approaching and are automating and outsourcing many management functions which will increase new skills in order to fight with the competitors. Moreover, the human resource professionals say that some of the standard nich-such as human resource generalist and benefits specialist will become less common and less important, giving way over to new ones such as human resource financial analyst and when we have a clear look the human resource people who have done amazing tasks like in the process redefining themselves and their profession can be in a top level with rewarding careers than human resource people who have worked in this long time ago. In the past the role of the administrative department was hiring employees, paying employees and dealing with benefits as at that time these were the functions the businesses needed. Moreover, at that time human resource managers role was aligning employees and management functions that were viewed by the business as paperwork. In this generation there are many different roles and responsibilities of the human resource management. The small businesses may take full responsibility for all human resource activities and huge businesses, this act as an internal consultant and all the human resource description are done with the support of strategic business direction. Some of the roles and responsibilities are training and development, recruiting, productivity improvement, managing the salary, employee services and strategic planning. Technology plays an important role in the human resource management. In the past there were only telephones, typewriters and the time clock in order to manage the works of the business and now all the businesses are computerized, managers have to deal with; multimedia, internet, local area networks i.e and human resource works are dependent on the technological lending edge. To identify the skilled workers who have applied to the job, through applicant-tracking system it is easy to find and to save time the employees learning needs are assessed through a computer dialog. Moreover, automatically the employees attendance is recorded in the computers. Technology makes the human resource management works much easy. When we have a broader picture about the future of the human resource management there might be labor supply. Some experts say that there will be a change in the employment relationship, not a demographically driven shortage of workers; but I agree with the author, Losey. He says there will be a real labor shortage requiring improved recruitment and retention strategies as well as better understanding of why employees really leave organization. Moreover, the skills have to be improved; new roles have to be developed like without giving up human resources human core and offering product lines to serve the larger business. For the future of human resource management applying scientific approach is a good way where professionals can make recommendations based on data and evidence rather than on personal preference.

Inspiration and Manipulation Essay -- Essays Papers

Inspiration and Manipulation Emily Dickinson is a poet of great interest because she is one of a handful of artists that â€Å"refuse to conform to the Anglo-American literary traditions† (Howe 11). One of the most fascinating aspects of Emily Dickinson’s character is that she willingly shuts her door to the world which ultimately allows her creativity to thrive without criticism. While historical documents allow contemporary readers insight into her life and provide potential reasons for her seclusion, but the best reflection of Dickinson’s character is found in her poetry. Dickinson’s poetry creates a paradox because her intentions are only seen through her critics. This makes it difficult to fully understand what Dickinson really meant through her words. Dickinson compresses the world around her and in doing so, she redefines literature. Dickinson is a part of her poetry, which is a personal, physical portion of what may be considered her soul. While the Anglo-American heritage tr ies to decompress Dickinson’s poetry so that the masses can understand, readers lose a part of the intensely personal piece that Dickinson put into her art. It is up to the contemporary reader to rediscover her tradition and to incorporate it back into an understanding of her work. Emily Dickinson challenges rules of language and provides a different way to arrange her words on paper. Anglo-American systems are generally uniform to create a coherent, regular, and distinctive form of communication through language and literature. Dickinson had the courage to question the uniformity of language. Dickinson lived in a time when males were considered to be the scholars and females were designated to household tasks. The advancement that she had over ... ...s shifted slightly, but the main threads are still visible. Although Todd does have a point, the controversy lies in whether or not she had the right to do what she did. Of course not all of Dickinson’s intention can be recovered, but closer representation through the investigation of original works is now possible. The question still remains pertaining to the issues of editing in general and how the process affects the artist’s true intentions. Let us look to Emily Dickinson’s situation as a reference for the future. Works Cited - Franklin, R. W. The Editing of Emily Dickinson: A Reconsideration. Global Warming Speech Essay

Global warming is a major concern to anybody who understands the threat it poses to our society. Recently many ideas have been discussed about ways to stop or slow down the process. One of the biggest issues is considering nuclear power stations, which some optimistics believe will cure or completely resolve the issue of slowing global warming to the absolute minimal. But we ask ourselves are nuclear power plants the best option? Have we spent enough time studying alternatives to eliminate them completely? Alternatives such as wind turbines, wave power and combined heat and power systems would by far be a better and safer approach to slowing down global warming. Some of our erudite friends may argue that other countries like Germany have devastated their countryside with wind farms. That may very well be so, but do looks really matter so much that we would willingly reduce the time man lives on earth for a little extra greenery? We know for a fact that a program of energy efficiency could save twice as much as nuclear power at just a fraction of the cost, and what’s more we can start energy efficiency immediately. As per previous experiences we have witnessed that nuclear power stations are expensive, dangerous and dirty. That in comparison to combined heat and power systems which are cheaper, cleaner and safer. Which would you prefer? There are of course other risks. If a plane was to crash in a nuclear power plant the outcome would be unthinkable. The supporters of such plants may argue that apart from those on the plane and the plant workers, no one else would be injured. Suppose the plane hits a venerable part of the power plant, the chance that dangerous gases could be exposed into the air that we breathe is rather high, and the outcome would be unimaginable. Previously we have seen men die from illnesses at a much later date than the actual disasters and also we have witnessed families suffer for many yrs afterwards. The effects become in a sense hereditary, through generations. Time is also a major issue. Building nuclear power plants could take up to 10 yrs with all the planning and authority approvals needed. Even though the French seem to have done so in 4-5 yrs we must remember that the procedures are different in every country. Where the French do not find it necessary to include the people in their decisions the British believe in involving us into every decision made. This will make it harder to keep the timing a minimal as every aspect of the procedure will be considered thoroughly from both, the political side and the public view. As we know from previous experience the public are not hugely in favour of global warming. Why after all that has been said would any sane individual even consider Nuclear power is beyond me? I plead with you to make global warming a thing of the past using healthy methods and hope that I have made the dangers of global warming convincing enough to make you reconsider whose side you’re on. Nuclear Power or Energy Efficiency, THE CHOICE IS YOURS!

Schizophreni A Major Psychiatric Disorder - 886 Words

Schizophrenia is a major psychiatric disorder that can be crippiling, and is one of top 10 disabilites in the world (Bhargav, Nagendra, Gangadhar, and Nagarathna, 2014). Schizophrenia usually effects males in the early 20 s and women in their late 20 s. Symptoms include: delusions, hallucinations, disorganized thinking (speech), and abnormal motor behavior (mayo clinic). Even with proper treatment patients still experience symptoms related to their disorder. Proper medication can help with symptoms, but sometimes this comes with cost of side effects that make a patient not even want to take the medicine. There is also the cost of paying for a doctor, which can be quite expensive. The initial consultation can cost up to three hundred dollars with each subsequent visit costing 100 dollars. There is also the stigma that goes along with Schizophrenia. I m sure everyone has seen the man or woman walking down the street talking to someone that isn t there, this person could appear quite normal with help. Schizophrenics are ordinary people that have a disorder, and with proper treatment can function in society. As mentioned earlier even with proper treatment individuals with Schizophrenia still experience negative symptoms; as a result a lot of individuals with Schizophrenia are seeking add on treatments, including myself being diagnosed with Schizophrenia at the age of 21. Add on treatments are treatments, such as yoga, that go hand in hand with everyday
